Robdar, thank you for the condolences.
Those soldiers were stationed out of the base in the city where I live, so it comes closer to home than I would have expected.
Yes, war is hell, you are so right, Francois, and I will be watching carefuly for the American response.

To the Canadians
by Robdar ini want to send my heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the canadians for what happened in afghanistan this week.
it breaks my heart that the actions of this nation have affected your good country in such a horrible way.
please know that there are many of us in united states who are appalled and dismayed over the "friendly fire" accident.

Printer Advice
by sweetone2377 into all of out there thinking of using that refill, do it yourself kit for your printer's ink cart.....don't do it!!!
we've have done this and are now experiencing a problem.
they neglect to tell you that your cartridge heads (or whatever you call them) wear out well before you can use all ink you have in the kit.. .

I have used the refill kits and been happy. One print head won't last all six refills, but if I get 2 or 3 times as long with the print head I am pleased. One important thing is to make sure you refill the cartridge before it is completely empty, or the cartridge can be dry inside and not refill or print properly.

Cassiline, I am so glad you asked that. I have the same problem.
Valis, in the programs section, it says Internet explorer 6 and internet tools. Would the programming thing be part of the internet tools and if it is, how do I get rid of it?

Protecting Children From Sex
by LucidSky inwith controversy surrounding a soon-to-be-published book entitled harmful to minors: the perils of protecting children from sex ( http://more.abcnews.go.com/sections/us/dailynews/childsex_book020405.html), it is apparent that attitudes may indeed be changing in our society in regard to sex among youths.
instead of being totally avoided, they may be given encouragement to practice sex (obviously within safe limits) with other youths or even adults.
some cultures already encourage something like this.. socially, it seemed that boys were given subtle encouragement to "score", while girls were always viewed as the innocent victims to be protected from such lustful young men.

You have a point Xander, and I know I'm not able to get across what I mean. I would want to have that sense of love and trust BEFORE I would share myself physically with someone. Some people are very private and cannot have casual sex, it would be soul destroying for them. They need the relationship before they are comfortable with the physical. So that is what I taught my kids.
You are allowed to handle yourself however feels right to you.

What a fascinating thread! As the parent of 2 teenagers, it is something I have thought long and hard about, and started talking to my kids about long ago. I am on the conservative side, but fully realize that if my kids don't marry till they are 24 or 25 or older, it is extremely likely they will be sexually active before marriage.
The best way to protect children from early sex is communication. My philosphy is responsible sexuality. Sex is the most intimate experience you can have with another person. If you have a strong sense of yourself as special, you want to share this intimate act with someone else who is really special...hopefully someone who you would consider sharing your whole life with. I hope my kids wait till they are AT LEAST legally adults, or older to evaluate themselves and the person they are involved with. So, you add your personal sense of self-worth, to the risk of pregnancy and disease.
We all know that relationships are confusing at the best of times, both joyous and agonizing. Breakups are always messy, much more so if there has been sexual involvement, let alone a baby involved.
Teenage boys may sometimes be fascinated by girls who are promiscuous, but they sure don't respect them. Funny, the guys who are "players" don't seem to be looked down upon the same way. I have heard from the kids about girls considered by the boys to be "used goods" . My daughter decided on her own that she doesn't want to be a toy for any guy to play with and throw away when he is tired of her. More power to her.
I recently read that few kids regret waiting for their first sexual experience, but many regret starting it so soon. (Don't remember where Iread it, sorry)
It is eventually all up to them, how they will handle that part of their lives, and you hope that you have been open enough they will be able to make wise choices, with the least regrets.

Kismet, do you think it would be a good idea to put the correct address and procedure for donations in the Blood section, so it will be easier to people to find?

Bizarre religious doctrines
by Solace ini am aware of false religious doctrines in the w.t.s.. i never really considered the possibility of others also being manipulated by different religious organizations.. i work with a woman who is very devout in her beliefs.
the women in her church are not permitted to use birth control, cut their hair, wear makeup or wear jewelry.
they may sing but no music or musical instruments are permitted.

Simon, I just saw your thread. Those are Hutterites. They usualy are a bit less strict than Mennonites if I recall, but basically the same.
They also generally reject anyone who leaves their lifestyle and religion. They live a communal lifestyle and haven't been big on education in the past. In some ways they make JWs look moderate. They buy up farms and form large colonies. Lots in Southern Alberta (which is a bible belt anyway).
Have a look.
http://www.hutterites.org/organiz.htmWhen I worked in a drugstore down there, we had problems with the Hutterite girls shoplifting cosmetcs or perfumes, as they were just dying to try it and of, course, weren't allowed. They could hide things in those volumous skirts very easily. I always wondered what they would do with it once they had it, so they wouldn't get caught.

Thank you for the update, Hawk. Please give our congratulations and best wishes for his daughter's continued recovery to the father.
I will turn 630 CHED on the radio, as they are talking to the provincial minister of children's affairs on line this morning regarding this case.
